NBC joins Global in Working the Engels

Pirini Scleroso, all cleaned up

Finally some good news for people on TV named Ford.
NBC announced today that they are on board as a full broadcast partner in the new shot-in-Toronto comedy Working the Engels.
The series, created and written by sisters Katie and Jane Ford, stars SCTV legend Andrea Martin as the matriarch of a working class family forced to cobble together a storefront law firm when the patriarch suddenly passes away. Currently in production in Toronto, the one camera comedy is coming to Global as well as NBC. Twelve episodes have been ordered. So far, a premiere date has not been announced.
While U.S.-Canada drama co-pros have been popular ever since Flashpoint clicked for CTV and CBS, Working the Engels represents the first such comedy series co-pro between the two countries.
Martin, of course, was enjoyed on both sides of the border back when NBC broadcast SCTV, seen in Canada in the early ’80s on Global.
Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Azure Skye (American Horror Story) and Benjamin Arthur (Less Than Kind) co-star. Collin Mochre, Wendy Crewson and Jennifer Irwin guest star in the first three episodes.
Howard Busgang, Tom Nursall and Noreen Halpern join the Ford’s as executive producers. Katie Ford has written for everything from Family Ties to Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays.
NBC’s fall comedies Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show are struggling in the ratings, although Fox has a full season commitment.
