Allan Hawco: he’s everywhere

IMG_5982ST. JOHN’S, Nfld–You can’t even cross the street in St. John’s without a Republic of Doyle reminder. Even Allan Hawco finds he’s confronting himself on the back of a bus.
Caught up with Hawco, who says he’s spent just one or two nights in St. John’s so far this year. He’s just back from shooting CBC’s The Book of Negros with Cuba Gooding, Jr., in South Africa. In April, he was performing a sold out run in The Company Theatre stage production “Belleville” in Toronto.
Republic of Doyle begins production on a sixth season at the beginning of June, with 10 new episodes airing this fall.

One of these decades I have to go to Newfoundland. Once, as a 16-year-old girl (that was 14 years ago) I flew from Saskatchewan to New Brunswick with my crazy dad and uncle. They were determined to see every inch of the Maritimes in one week by car and they stopped at every single tourist site and pub along the way. I was the default designated driver and after seeing seemingly every inch of New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia, with very little sleep, when my dad said we were going to extend the vacation another few days to go on the fairy to Newfoundland I threw the biggest tantrum imaginable and refused. I’ve regretted it ever since, especially after seeing it on Republic of Doyle,

  2. Hi Bill,

Have you heard what the episode order for Doyle is then? Is it comparable to last year’s most-ever 16, or has it been cut?

Cut to 10 at cash-strapped CBC. More Doyle news coming May 29 at CBC’s 2014-15 season launch in Toronto.

      • Wow, does that suck. I was afraid of that. I wasn’t sure which way they’d go though, as the CBC still needs quite a bit of content & Doyle is a proven performer. Not feeling terribly optimistic about Murdoch’s episode order now…
