This is a picture of my mother, Margaret Brioux. She always told me that if you don’t have anything nice to say about something or somebody, come sit next to me.

No, that’s a joke. What she said was, keep it to yourself.

So all I can say is that the final gala of the Canadian Screen Awards airs this Sunday night on CBC.

Just like at the Oscars this year, there is no host. It worked well in Hollywood I thought, so fingers crossed.

I actually do have at least one nice thing to say. Canadians from coast to coast make the best TV in the world. I’ve witnessed crews turning out gold on a Canadian dime in St. John’s, Halifax, Montreal, Sudbury, North Bay, Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Vancouver and Yellowknife.  Actors, writers, producers, directors, camera-people, set designers, hair and makeup, special effects, even the craft services folks – it is inspiring and a privilege to see them in action.

There — I’ve said all I can say. Thanks, mom.
