“And it was a child who led them tonight…”
Wednesday, October 29: Sportsnet National+ drove in an estimated, overnight 4,970,000 Jays fans across Canada. What they witnessed was a record-breaking, 12-strikeout performance by 22-year-old rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage. Of the audience total, 1,713,000 viewers were in the 18-49-year-old demo. Add what Rogers also collected over on their City-TV broadcast window Wednesday night — 1,416,000 in overnights — and 6,386,000 total average minute audience viewers watched Game 5 in Canada.
There should be no debate about which specialty network is the nation’s most-watched after this World Series. The Jays deep playoff run is the bonanza of the decade for viewership. Sportsnet’s pre-game show Wednesday drew 1,735,000 AMA viewers in overnights, with another 1,652,000 sticking around for the victorious post-game show.
TSN Wednesday night? Their Raptor’s/Houston Rockets NBA tilt drew 123,000 in estimates.
On the other channels, Global marooned 669,000 Survivor viewers. CTV stranded 286,000 with The Amazing Race. CBC’s top draw of the night, by far, was centuries-old import soap Coronation Street with an estimated, overnight 258,000 viewers.
Game 6, back at the Rogers Centre, could be one big happy treat in Canada on Halloween night. Game coverage starts at 8 pm ET on Sportsnet, City and Fox.
