Lost Girl premiered to over 400,000 viewers last Sunday on Showcase, the highest-rated Canadian scripted series premiere ever on the Canwest specialty network. Episode two of the supernatural thriller, which stars New Brunswick native Anna Silk (right), airs Sunday at 9 p.m.
Last Sunday saw MuchMusic crack the Canadian weekly Top-30 with 918,000 total viewers watching the MTV Music Awards. Shows you what a meat bikini can do for ratings.
In network numbers, CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada hovered around the million mark on Monday and Tuesday this week according to overnight estimates, with Monday’s performance show drawing the bigger audience.
In U.S. network series premieres, Jimmy Smits’ law drama Outlaw drew 599,000 Tuesday night at 10 p.m. across Canada on Global.
Some of the fall premiere number coming out of the States have been surprisingly low. Against repeats of Grey’s Anatomy and The Mentalist, The Apprentice stumbled out of the gate Stateside, drawing under five million viewers for its two hour premiere on NBC. That’s a record low for the series and also the kind of number that cost Jay Leno his 10 o’clock timeslot last season. It did better, proportionally, in Canada, drawing an overnight, estimated 898,000 on Global, but got banged up pretty good against CTV’s Thursday Big Bang Theory marathon. The sitcom, which CTV has been running up to the plate like it was Mariano Rivera, drew 2.4 million in the 9:30 slot. For a rerun!
Vampire Diaries bled a little in the States, barely breaking 3 million viewers. Ratings were also down year-to-year for Parenthood, One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected. CW newcomers Hellcats and Nikita fell week-to-week against rerun competition.
