To whet out appetite for Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building — premiering August 27 on Hulu and Disney+ in Canada — the above teaser photo was released. The new season storyline finds our three podcasters Charles, Oliver and Mabel (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) off to Los Angeles. A Hollywood Studio is making a movie about the Only Murders podcasters, who are still trying to figure out the murder of Charle’s long-time stand-in, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch). Cast in the roles of the trio are Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Evs Longoria.
Those longing for their Martin Short fix should call up Friday night’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. The HBO/Crave series features Short as the hour’s opening guest, except he was in the guise of well-padded movie critic Jiminy Glick. Glick was supposedly quizing Maher about his new book, “What This Comedian Said will Shock You!,” which is a collection of the HBO host’s hilarious and bracing “New Rules” essays he saves to the end of every episode.
Glick, however, turned the extended segment into a roast of Maher, who could barely breathe he was laughing so hard. He did manage to pay homage to SCTV, the landmark Canadian sketch series of the late ’70s-early ’80s. Maher says it ws a major influence on his comedy career, and that “almost” every member of that troupe was a comedy icon — the implied exception being Short.
Not that this stopped Jiminy, who continued to mercilously mock Maher. Short is incredible.
