Some news about one of our sponsors here at brioux.tv: It was announced today that Toronto-based Hollywood Suite, which owns and operates four linear TV channels featuring hit movies from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000’s plus an accompanying On Demand offering, has been acquired by the global multi-platform media company Anthem Sport & Entertainment, Inc.

Anthem was founded in 2010 by former Global Television president Leonard Asper. Starting with an acquisition of Fight Network — featuring combat, wrestling and mixed martial arts — Anthem has been steadily adding niche linear and digital brands. Game TV was another acquasition. The Global Wrestling Network was launched in 2017. A majority stake in US cable brands AXStv and HDnet were acquired in 2019 from Mark Cuban and others. Anthem also has their fingers in related sports and movie properties in both the US and The UK.

Hollywood Suite president David Kines, who co-founded the business with the late Jay Switzer, will continue to manage the movie channel. In its 13-year history, Suite has become the largest pure-play movie service in Canada, available to over 10 million homes via Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Amazon Prime Video, Cogeco, Eastlink and Freedom Mobile, among others. Much of that growth, of course, is due to the many banner and audio ads on brioux.tv and brioux.tv: the podcast.

The deal is pending the approval of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
