This coming Sunday after 60 Minutes, CBS News will premiere the one-hour special Rob Reiner: Scenes from a Life.

The acclaimed actor-writer-director was found murdered in his home last Sunday along with his wife and fellow activist, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple’s younest son, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested and charged with the slayings.

Several of the stars who were directed by Reiner will pay tribute to their friend. They include Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland (“Stand by Me”), Mandy Patinkin (“The Princess Bride”), Kathy Bates (“Misery”), and Michael Douglas and Annette Bening (“The American President”). Reiner’s friend since high school, Albert Brooks, who Reiner directed in the 2023 documentary, “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life,” will also pay his respects.

The special will include archived interviews with Reiner including his last sit-down, recorded just last fall, and conducted by Leslie Stahl for 60 Minutes.

At 21, Reiner became the youngest writer on the CBS variety show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Less than two years after that controversial (for the time) series was suddenly pulled off the air, Reiner was co-starring on what would become the No. 1 series on television, All in the Family. Scenes from that Norman Lear sitcom will be featured this coming Sunday.

The special will begin around 8:30 pm ET/PT depending on NFL football over-runs on CBS.
