Andy Griffith, Larry Hagman, Ernest Borgnine, Phyllis Diller, Davy Jones, William Windom–the list of great actors, entertainers and filmmakers who have died in the past 12 months seems to get more sobering every year at this time. TCM always creates such a beautiful tribute in their annual “TCM Remembers” videos. The haunting song used this time is Wait by M83. TCM posted their annual salute, embedded above, on Dec. 10, so a few big names are missing, including Charles Durning, Jack Klugman and Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson. Notable Canadians who passed away in 2012 include Neon Rider star Winston Rekert, 63, writer/producer Frank Peppiatt, 85 and Polka Dot Door creator Ted Coneybeare, 86. Other big TV names off the TCM list include Sherman Hemsley, Richard Dawson , Mike Wallace and a guy who will be missed in Times Square this Dec. 31, Dick Clark.

May the belatedly reported, and former CBC-Degrassi teen throb actor, Neil Hope get an inclusion? (He died four years earlier, at age 35.)
MeTv and AntennaTV became my goto sites for any immediate tribute programming blocks in 2012. Even Bounce bounced quickly with their Donna Summer re-scheduling of a Soul Train episode plus a film rebroadcast etc.
Compare that to Cdn Media’s typical lack of effort. For example: this years’s all-time radio charts of Shaw’s Q107 and Bell’s Chumfm (and its Fall advertising campaign?). I had suggested a ’67-hour (all) Canada’ Day music radio attempt. Or, we can just keep on keeping on: per Rogers’ 2012 Blue Jays theme song, “The Way it Is.”
