Uh oh. After going up three games to none, The Toronto Maple Leafs lost their second in a row and were shut out Tuesday in the fifth game of their round one playoff with the Ottawa Senators. Which means … one of these Canadian teams will be eliminated.
That fifth game drew an overnight, estimated 1,008,000 CBC viewers in average minute audience. Add the 1,565,000 who watched the same game on Sportsnet National, and close to 2.6 million viewers ages 2-and-up saw the Buds go down in a shutout.
At least the fans showed up, although it was alarming to see so many stream for the exits at the rink in Toronto Tuesday after empty net goals clinched the Ottawa victory. It was like watching Poilievre supporters slink out of the banquet hall after his convention Monday night.
Face off for Game Six happens Thursday night in Ottawa and can be viewed on Sportsnet and CBC starting at 7 p.m.
In Tuesday’s late game, the Edmonton Oilers finall ended the Los Angeles Kings home streak before an overnight, estimated 887,000 Sportsnet National viewers plus another 570,000 watching on CBC.
There wasn’t much competition Tuesday on other channels. The big CTV and Global hour-long procedural imports drew in the 300,000’s and must have been in reruns. Citytv’s big money original Canada’s Got Talent drew 367,000 in overnight estimates. Yes Chef premiered to 269,000 on the same night on CTV. TSN netted 121,000 with the Clippers-Denver NBA playoff game. The Blue Jays batted 307,000 vs Boston on SportsnetOne.

Wednesday brought an end to The Montreal Canadiens playoff run after five games with a loss to The Washington Ovechkins. An estimated 718,000 watched on Sportsnet National. Another 663,000 caught the game on CBC.
The Canadian team that won a Game 5 Wednesday was The Winnipeg Jets, who drew an estimated 770,000 on Sportsnet and 417,000 on CBC. Beating them all in terms of individual network hauls was a 90-minute edition of Survivor on Global (792,000), with that tally sure to grow over a million by the time the Live+7 and digital views are added. Survivor topped two reality shows imports on CTV Wednesday night in overnights, The Masked Singer (479,000) and The Amazing Race (437,000).
