
Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs win over Florida Panthers in Round 2 NHL Stanley Cup action approached the three million mark in overnight viewers.
An estimated, average minute audience of 2,874,000 watched on Sportsnet National (1,555,000) and CBC (1,319,000). Add in the viewers who also streamed on digital platforms and the game certainly would have topped the three million mark. Sportsnet also drew 779,000 for the late Wednesday Winnipeg Jets game against the Dallas Stars.
Other shows Wednesday: Global’s 90-minute Survivor drew an overnight, estimated 681,000 viewers in AMA’s. Top import on CTV was the two hour Masked Singer episode (523,000). City’s import Chicago Med drew 453,000.
On Thursday, May 8, those come-from-behind Edmonton Oilers drew a combined 1,628,000 in overnight estimates in their Round 2, Game 2 win over the Vegas Knights. (Sportsnet National 903,000; CBC Total 725,000). The late start (nearly 10 p.m. ET) and very late finish (1:24 a.m.) likely put a dent in that total. An early NHL playoff game between Carolina and Washington the same night drew 517,000 on Sportsnet.
The non hockey competition Thursday night was Global import hours 9-1-1 (828,000) and Elsbeth (629,000); City’s Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (535,000) and CTV’s Doc Odyssey (423,000). All of the hour-long scripted dramas will get a big boost later in total data, especially once Live+7 viewers are factored in.
