Fire up the Tiki torch and pass the Doritos. On Tuesday, CBS hosted a virtual press conference with members of the Television Critics Association. Announced were details about the 50th season of TV’s most-successful competition reality show ever, Survivor.
This season, which was filmed as usual on the islands of Fiji and hosted by Jeff Probst, will launch with a three-hour premiere Wednesday, Feb. 25 on CBS and Global as well as streaming on Paramount+ and STACKTV. The theme of the season, “In the Hands of the Fans,” will allow viewers at home who have been searching 50 states for immunity idols to “swiftly and forcefully impact the game.” Not in the hands of fans — somebody gets injured on the very first episode. (Hopefully, not a viewer at home.)

Canadian Genevieve Mushaluk from Survivor 47 — who guested on a 2024 episode of brioux.tv: the podcast — is among the 24 returning competitors. She managed a fifth place finish that season. Among the other fan favourite contestants are:
- Jenna Lewis-Dougherty, a finalist on the original episode, Survivor Borneo (season one), who returned for All-Stars (season eight).
- Colby Donaldson, runner-up to Tina Wesson on Survivor Australia (season two), All-Stars (season eight), and Heroes vs. Villains (season 20).
- Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick from Palau (season 10), Guatemala (season 11), Heroes vs. Villains (season 20).
- Cirie Fields from Exile Island (season 12), Micronesia (season 16), Heroes vs. Villains (season 20) and Game Changers (season 34).
- Ozzy Lusth, seen on Cook Islands (season 13), Micronesia (season 16), South Pacific (season 23) and Game Changers (season 34).
- Benjamin “Coach” Wade who was on Survivor Tocantins (season 18), Heroes vs. Villains (season 20) and South Pacific (season 23).
- Aubry Bracco from KaĂ´h RĹŤng (season 32), Game Changers (season 34) and Edge of Extinction (season 38).
- Mike White – yes, the creator of White Lotus — who competed on David vs. Goliath (season 37) is back.
They and others will all compete for the million-dollar top prize.
In addition to the new season, starting Monday, Feb. 9, CBS has scheduled 10 encore episodes showcasing many of the craftiest players from the Survivor 50 cast. It’s an interesting broadcasting programming move, with CBS putting these Survivor “Road to 50” oldies up against NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympic Games on rival NBC. Can “Outwit, Outplay, Outlast” beat “Higher, Faster, Stronger”? The classic episodes are as following:

Monday, Feb. 9 (8:00-9:00 PM) – SURVIVOR: MICRONESIA: “If It Smells Like a Rat, Give It Cheese” featuring Cirie Fields
