Appearing on CHCH’s Live @ 5:30 this afternoon (at, yes, 5:30) to talk about the best and worst shows for fall. Regular hosts Mark Hebscher and Donna Skelly are both taking the day off, so I’ll be quizzed by my old pal Lawrence Diskin, who also produces the show. My picks for best new comedies this fall: Modern Family, starring Ed O’Neill in a hilarious pilot where he’s paired with a much younger Latino lover (Sophia Vergara), Community, a very funny comedy with The Soup‘s Joel McHale leading a study group at a community college (where back-to-school businessman Chevy Chase is among the students) and Cougar Town, starring Friends’ Courteney Cox-Arquette as an over-40 MILF surrounded by some wacky friends and neighbours. It’s from Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, who told us at press tour that, yes, that is Cox-Arquette’s real belly she’s squishing and jiggling in front of a mirror in the pilot. Now that takes guts.
