Jack Black made the scene Thursday at TCA. He was before critics to help promote The Brink, a political satire series coming later this year to HBO. Tim Robbins and, be still my heart, Carla Gugino, are also in the cast. Gugino will be back at TCA next week to promote the upcoming Twin Peaks-like series, Whispering Pines.
After the session, out in the lobby in the scrum, Black tilted up his groovy blue shades and talked about a few other projects. He’s planning a new Tenacious D tour with Kyle Gass and even a movie. “We have a concept,” he says. “Don’t worry, I haven’t turned my back on my roots.”
He was also asked about plans at children’s cable network Nickelodeon to launch a new series based on Black’s 2003 movie School of Rock. Andrew Lloyd Webber has also announced plans about mounting a Broadway show inspired by the movie. “I have nothing to do with either one,” says Black. “I feel like one of my kids grew up and went off and did things without my approval.”
Black and Robbins–who directed the second episode of The Brink–have worked together before. Black’s first film credit, in fact, is Bob Roberts, a 1992 film that was also a political satire.
