CBC certainly let you know the 2025 Juno Awards were coming. There was host Michael Bublé, in countless promotion spots for well over a month, getting more air time than a Poilievre attack ad chiding Mark Carney for sneaking up on him in the polls. Sneaky!

It had to help that the show, broadcast live from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, featured much flag waving and elbows up energy in the wake of all that ridiculous 51st State blather. Lifetime achievement award winner Anne Murray, decked out in a glittery red-and-white Canada sweater, stood on guard with Bublé and others.

With all that going for it, the 2025 Canadian music industry salute drew an overnight, estimated 542,000 viewers across Canada with about 149,000 more counted in rebroadcasts across the western provinces. CBC’s own research team pegs the average overnight total at 691,000 viewers — peaking at 838,000 viewers six minutes in when Bublé proclaimed his love for Canada.

CBC also says the 2025 Junos drew the biggest audience ever on digital and streaming platforms including CBC Gem and YouTube, where more than 762,000 streams were recorded — up nearly 400 per cent from the 2024 Junos.

If the overnight numbers still seem low, this should put it in perspective: against everything except one sporting event, The Junos won the night Sunday. CTV’s imported simulcast Tracker pulled 628,000 at 8 p.m. (and, like other scripted shows, will total much higher in seven- and 30-day estimates). CTV’s pick up of Suits LA, however, derailed after Tracker to 224,000 and The $100,000 Pyramid devalued even further.

A late afternoon Blue Jays baseball game on Sportsnet National won the night with a robust estimate of 722,000 viewers. Later Sunday night, a Leafs-Anaheim NHL tilt drew 549,000 hockey fans. Nothing on Global topped the Junos in overnights, with The Equalizer at 10 p.m. that private network’s top primetime draw at an estimated 420,000 viewers.

In terms of music shows, Citytv’s simulcast of American Idol got drowned out at the audition level with an estimated 225,000 tuning in. Dawg, pitchy!

  1. Suits: LA is a complete disaster. I would not be surprised if the series gets an upgrade for a second season, despite the American numbers are underwhelming.

I’m very curious to know the numbers of The Americas, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Wild Cards and Happy’s Place, especially Wild Cards. This season seems to have more support for both networks (more episodes, individual posters, guests), so I guess it’s probably working great.
