All that snow in Texas hasn’t slowed down 9-1-1: Lonestar

You never read stories about them. They’re rarely trending on social media. Still, two million (mostly older) Canadians a week are still watching hour-long dramas or half-hour sitcom imports on old-fashioned broadcast television stations.

The Good Doctor wins most week’s CTV simulcasts a new episode of the series. The fact 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lonestar land in the two and three spots overall suggests a lot of Canadian homes, at least in the Numeris sample, simply leave those shows on the Fox affiliate station Monday nights. The Equalizer at No. 7 indicates that Global nabbed the top new import of the winter so far.

The Top 10 across English Canada played out this way the week of February 15 to 21 in terms of average minute audiences:

  1. The Good Doctor (CTV) Mon 2,184,000
  2. 9-1-1 (Global) Mon 2,044,000
  3. 9-1-1: Lonestar (CTV) Mon 1,952,000
  4. The Rookie (CTV) Sun 1,839,000
  5. CTV Evening News (CTV) MTWTF 1,692,000
  6. Young Sheldon (CTV) Thurs 1,639,000
  7. The Equalizer (Global) 1,622,000
  8. Magnum, P.I. (CTV) Fri 1,606,000
  9. Big Sky (CTV) Tues 1,442,000
  10. This is Us (CTV) Tues 1,442,000

Hockey remains a steady draw in 2021 as NHL rivalries heat up in the Canadian division. Sportsnet National drew the 12th spot overall with a Toronto Maple Leafs victory over the Montreal Canadiens on a Wednesday night watched by 1,312,000 viewers.

Another game Saturday on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada scored the 19th spot as 1,147,000 tuned in for the Early start in the East. That same game — again, Leafs v. Canadiens — drew another 914,000 on Sportsnet National — enough for 29th spot. If you combine the NHL take for the same game on both CBC and Sportsnet, however, the traditional rivals drew a total “Hockey Day in Canada” audience of over two million viewers — enough to place 2nd overall for the week.

Other rankings of note: Saturday Night Live on Global drew 1,154,000 and placed 18th with Regina King hosting Feb. 13. Citytv continues to place all three Chicago-based NBC dramas in the Canadian Top 30 with Chicago Med the most popular in 13th spot (1,310,000 viewers).

Twenty-sixth ranked Murdoch Mysteries remains the top-rated — and only — Canadian scripted show in the Top 30 with 1,061,000 CBC viewers.
