There was glee again at Global yesterday as BBM Canada overnight estimates counted 1,735,000 viewers for Wednesday’s season premiere of Glee. That made it the highest rated show of the night in Canada, topping Global’s Wipeout (1,447,000), CTV’s America’s Top Model (1,078,000) and the results show for So You Think You Can Dance Canada (1,053,000).
A repeat of Dragon’s Den on CBC did an astounding 961,000.
Glee did well enough Stateside to win its timeslot among 18-49-year-old viewers, clocking in at 7.31 million in total households. At 8, Fox stole little of U.S. president Barack Obama’s thunder with the return of a diminished So You Think You Can Dance (6.46 million viewers).
Global’s out-of-simulcast premiere of Melrose Place was less hearty, with 641,000 tuning in according to the new PPM math (see Chris Young’s report today in the Toronto Star on how the personal people meters are boosting numbers for live sports events on television). Melrose did much worse, proportionally, Tuesday in the U.S., drawing less than 2.3 million viewers. For my Canadian Press feature today on Melrose star Ashlee Simpson-Wentz–who was mobbed at press tour–go here.
