If you’re looking for weekly Survivor recaps here at TVFMF, I’m afraid I’ve taken my Tiki torch and stepped off the Survivor Experts Panel. Got back into it for that 10th anniversary, 20th edition all-star edition last winter/spring but just too swamped with fall preview deadlines and other details to commit now to a weekly jungle rant.
Did catch some of the premiere Wednesday and I dunno about this whole Jimmy Johnson deal. Coach (left) looks like he’s been thrown for a loss. Somebody douse him with Gatorade. Don’t need to see a 67-year-old stripped to his waist on his knees yakking in night vision.
The old vs young angle seems kinda dumb, too, everybody knows the geezers get tossed off Survivor first.
Shifted to Wednesday after a decade on Thursday, Survivor drew 11.8 million viewers in the first half hour and grew to 12.2 at 8:30 on CBS, second in the timeslot to the finale of America’s Got Talent on NBC (from 13 to 14.7 million in the Neilsen overnights). Survivor finished first in the 18-49 demo and was up 8% over last fall’s season premiere in ratings. That’s got to be encouraging for Mark Bunett, who could not have been happy to see his baby yanked out of Thursday at 8. The Tiki torch is still lit.
UPDATE: Survivor Nicaragua worked on Wednesday in Canada, too, drawing nearly 2.5 million for the premiere on Global. It even outdrew the two hour Big Brother finale, which did an overnight, estimated 1,733,000 viewers to close a big night for the network.
