Tank builders Brett Raymer and Wayde King: in the swim |
After a while, all these reality shows where cameras follow people working at unusual professions start to blur together. There’s always family arguments, a cranky patriarch, a doofus best buddy and a long suffering wife. The jokes are obviously scripted and the situations anything but spontaneous.
Tanked is no different; in fact, each episode offers all of the above. Still, I got a kick out of the two main characters when they appeared last January at the TCA press tour: brothers-in-law Brett Raymer and Wayde King. The two former New Yorkers now build these crazy-ass fish tanks out of–where else?–Las Vegas. How much money do they got from this? They get scale.
The second season of their series begins tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Animal Planet. A fresh water tank built into a stainless steel refrigerator–complete with water disposal–is featured tonight as is an enormous shark tank built for a dentist’s office. Talk about having the bite put on you.
Despite all the typical TV moments, you can tell these two guys are doing something they love. Plus the tanks are pretty cool. Read more on tonight’s Tanked at this feature I wrote for The Canadian Press.
