Two weeks ago I was invited to join a few other journalists at a training centre in Etobicoke on a pizza-making mission. Assured we could eat what we made, I readily agreed.
The above video captures the results. It’s all part of a new reality series called Be The Boss Canada, premiering June 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on W. The series puts employees from six Canadian companies in head-to-head competition toward a life-changing job opportunity. It’s a bit like Undercover Boss Canada, except here employees are in the spotlight.
Pizza Pizza is featured in the opening episode. CMO Pat Finelli, often heard on those pizza ads, was at the media event. He joined the company in 1984, fresh out of Ryerson. He saw the company grow from 35 franchises to over 600 nation-wide today, where they stand as the country’s biggest pizza chain.
They’re so big, in fact, they can risk allowing me into their kitchen. I learned that the ovens are set at 550 degrees and pizzas bake in roughly seven minutes. There are 35 slices of pepperoni on top of the average large pizza. Judge for yourself, but I don’t think I’ll be awarded any franchise anytime soon.
