The mighty Dr. Strangelove rocked the Roxy Thursday night |
VANCOUVER–These TV folks out here in Vancouver are at it morning, noon and nightclub.
I’m in Vancouver as a guest of Rogers to interview the cast of Package Deal, a new three-camera comedy coming to City stations in the spring. Randal Edwards (The Killing), the one-and-only Harland Williams, stand-up comedian Jay Malone and model/actress Julia Voth are all starring in the sitcom, which is created and executive produced by Andrew Orenstein (Malcolm in the Middle) and produced and distributed by Tim Gamble and Michael Shephard from Thunderbird Films (makers of Mr. Young).
A few of us scribes had dinner Thursday night at the tony Coast Restaurant with City’s Shannon Hall, Package Deal Unit publicist Julia Frittaion and the Thunderbird boys. Afterwards well-connected Gamble insisted on taking us down the street, past the bouncer and into Vancouver’s legendary Roxy, where the Dr. Strangelove was rocking out the joint with a succession of ’70s standards. Hell of a show.
BT Vancouver host Riaz Meghji is throwing his hat into the acting ring |
That didn’t stop me and Hall from making an early stop Friday morning at the friendly home of City-TV in Vancouver, where we were treated to a tour of the Breakfast Television and Sportsnet Pacific sets. Ran into my old SUN TV pal Riaz Meghji, who tells me he is taking acting lessons. Casting agents take note. He and co-host (and Value Village shopper) Jody Vance will be at this evening’s studio audience taping of the 12th episode of Package Deal, nearing the end of production on Season One in Vancouver.
