You may not have heard about this, but they’re having an election in November in the United States.
The first of four live televised Presidential debates begins tonight at 9 p.m. This one will be held at the University of Denver in Colorado. The square off on domestic issues between president Barack Obama and governor Mitt Romney will be broadcast live on C-Span, ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC as well as cable news channels CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. CBC News Network also has it, and it will also be live streamed, for the first time, on YouTube.
Vice president Joe Biden will square off against congressman Joe Ryan on Oct. 11, then Obama and Romney will go back at it on the 16th and 22nd.
The 9 p.m. start allows CBS to show Survivor on schedule, a big break for Global, which will carry on opposite the debates with Matthew Perry’s Go On, just awarded a full season order. CTV plans to counter program back-to-back repeats of their go-to show, The Big Bang Theory, opposite the debates at 9. That’s also when City launches their big new Canadian reality show effort, The Bachelor Canada.

Brad Smith, 28, is the Canadian bachelor. He gets to sleep with 70 or 80 Canadian women–some of them contestants–and then decide which one he will pretend to propose to in order to win a brand new refrigerator and other appliances. Chris Harrison hosts the series.
Wednesday night is a rare opportunity for this new Bachelor to debut while the big U.S. shows are on the sidelines, and the overnight tally should tilt in City’s favour. CBC will float Titanic: Blood & Steel opposite Obama/Romney.
For something completely different, you can check out one of the candidates’ favourite TV shows: Obama is a big fan of the CIA anti-terrorist drama Homeland, which had its second season premiere Sunday in Canada on Super Channel.
