HALIFAX, N.S.–No, it’s not Trailer Park Boys 3.
It’s Jonathan Torrens, Mark Forward and yours truly on location outside the Armed Forces curling rink where CBC’s Mr. D is shot in Halifax.
Torrens plays vice principal Cheeley on the comedy, which returns for a second season in January. Stand up comedian Forward plays librarian Mr. Leung. The series stars Gerry Dee as that goofball teacher we all had in high school.
I was walking past this vintage Airstream trailer on my way inside the studio when Torrens gave a holler. A resourceful lad, he spotted the ’60s camper listed on eBay and met the American seller halfway by traveling to Maine to purchase the rig. Aside from some spit and polish and replacing the shag rug inside with wood veneer flooring, he had an instant set trailer. Torrens parks it outside the curling rink while shooting Mr. D, and hauls it over to the Call Me Fitz set when working on that series.
Must have been a bright idea he picked up from all those years on Street Cents.
The P.E.I.-native turns 40 next month and he and the missus plan a little getaway to celebrate. Torrens marks another milestone next year–25 years on CBC. Carumba!
By the way, a third Trailer Park Boys movie is in the works–with Torrens back as pale rapper J-Roc. He’ll be the one in his own trailer on the set.
