maxresdefault_liveHow high will The Hip go?

I was asked that question on Twitter. It is one of those unique TV draws where there’s just no answer until the data comes in. CBC has promoted the hell out of their exclusive broadcast Saturday night of the very last concert by The Tragically Hip, broadcast live from Kingston, Ont.

CBC has the concert from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET. You can also stream the concert live here.

Those constant Olympic promos should drive viewers to Saturday’s broadcast. It’s not like there’s anything else on. Many fans, however, may choose to gather at a party or watch on screens set up at various venues across Canada. Some non-fans will be drawn by the sad news lead singer Gord Downie is battling terminal brain cancer.

I’m going to guess the show will  average two-and-a-half million on a Saturday night, the kind of crowd Hockey Night in Canada used to get a few years back. City drew close to 2.5M last February with The Grammy Awards.
