While she’s better known for playing Miranda on Sex and the City, Cynthia Nixon says acting in historical dramas such as World Without End gives her insight into today’s times.
The miniseries premieres Tuesday night at 10 p.m. in Canada on Showcase and Oct. 17 in the U.S. on ReelzChannel.
Nixon plays Petranilla, a 14th century schemer who uses her wiles to keep her head in grim medieval times. Based on the Ken Folett novel, the miniseries is set during the Hundred Years war between Britain and France, just as the Black Death is killing thousands.
Those not cut down by disease are getting hung in public by an unforgiving fiefdom. “People feel powerless to affect government now but, wow, look at how it used to be,” says Nixon.
The miniseries was executive produced by Tony and Ridley Scott and while she never met him on set, Tony’s recent suicide rocked all who worked on the project, says Nixon. Miranda Richardson, Ben Chaplin, Charlotte Riley, Peter Firth, Tom Weston-Jones and Canadians Megan Follows and Carlo Rota also star.
