As the finals tick down with two potential games remaining, the quest of The Edmonton Oilers to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada after a 32-season drought is drawing a little over three million viewers in English Canada.
Saturday’s Game 5 hometown loss by Edmonton to The Florida Panthers drew an overnight, estimated total of 1,658,000 on Sportsnet National+com plus another 1,435,000 on CBC for a combined 3,093,000 linear and specialty viewers.
Despite airing on a Saturday, that was a slight drop from the Thursday, June 12 tally. The Oilers victory that night in Florida drew an overnight, estimated 1,788,000 on Sportsnet and another 1,455,000 on CBC for a combined 3,234,000 viewers on linear and specialty across Canada.
Meanwhile in the United States, fewer NHL fans are catching the series. Thursday’s 4th game averaged a 1.3 rating and a series high of 2.61 million viewers on TNT and truTV, down from the matchup between the same two teams the year before.
The series resumes Tuesday night in Florida in Game 6 of the series. Florida, up three games to two, could wrap things up at home. Catch the action on Sportsnet, CBC, and TVA Sports in Canada and TNT and truTV in the United States. A 7th Game, if necessary, will be played Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m. ET in Edmonton and be carried by SN, CBC, TVAS, TNT, truTV, and Max.
