Wednesday, the great Canadian crossover concludes on Republic of Doyle (CBC, 9 p.m. ET/PT).
This is where Yannick Bisson and Allan Hawco jump into each other’s shows. Hawco went back in time to play the great, great grandfather of Jake Doyle last fall on Murdoch Mysteries. Now the great, great grandson of Det. William Murdoch heads East to The Rock to mix with the Doyle gang.
Seems Murdoch Junior–now going by Bill–is following in the family footsteps as a Toronto cop. He heads to Newfoundland to investigate a strange kidnapping case.
When he gets there, are there fisticuffs, bar fights and car chases? Oh yeah!
“It was sleeting sideways the second time,” Bisson recalled of the shoot for this episode, which took place last fall in St. John’s. “Sleet was coming in sideways right in your eyes.”
“We’re all in contemporary skimpy clothes when they came down to do our show,” added Hawco. Both promoted the episode at CBC’s Winter press launch in December in Toronto.
Bisson finally gets to shed his 19th century Murdoch duds, but he does look a lot like that guy from those CIBC ads walking around St. John’s.
The episode is called, “If the Shoe Fits.” Murdoch showrunner Peter Mitchell started this ball rolling last year by emailing Doyle star and EP Hawco a one word email: “crossover.” The resulting episodes have been a fun ride for fans of both shows.
The fifth season finale of Republic of Doyle–making way for CBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics Games in Sochi—airs next Wednesday at 8 with a special two hour episode.
