Runners on your marks!

CTV and host Jon Montgomery announced Thursday that applications to the 7th edition of The Amazing Race Canada are now open.

The renewal is no surprise. Once again, the globe-trotting adventure competition series from Insight Productions claimed top spot on Canada’s summer ratings chart, averaging over 1.8 million viewers a week. It has been Canada’s No. 1 summer series for six straight seasons.

First responders Courtney Berglindad and Adam Kovacs, an engaged couple from Alberta, won last summer’s “Heroes Edition” of the popular series. It was the first time a male/female team won the top prize. They won $250,000, two brand-new Chevys and a trip around the world. The couple had already visited seven provinces and three countries on their 50,000 mile trek.

It didn’t hurt that the nurse and the firefighter are in amazing shape. Having traveled with the teams over the course of the past several years, I’ve witnessed up close the toll the marathon competition can take on body, mind and spirit.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to compete, start planning your submission video now. And here’s a tip from many of the racers I’ve spoken with who got selected: keep it simple! Runners have until January 2, at 11:59 p.m. ET, to submit their applications. Find out exactly what you need to do here at CTV.ca/The AmazingRaceCanada as well as at the CTV Facebook page. And start working out now!
